This past weekend I was finally able to try a new upscale restaurant. The one I decided to visit is a highly renowned French establishment with tremendous brunch although they serve dinner and lunch as well. Opened by the team behind the very highly celebrated “The Dabney”, Petite Cerise is a Michelin listed French inspired all day dining experience that takes great influence from seasonality. Petite Cerise features separate menus for lunch, brunch, and dinner with each being built upon the values of extraordinary technique and high quality ingredients. Upon my arrival to the restaurant, I was greeted by the dining room of the energetic bistro. It featured a wide open kitchen that patrons could see into and I even heard the head chef shouting orders to his team over the bustling and liveliness of the dining room. We started our meal with grilled manifest bread baguette, featuring raspberry preserves and beurre de baratte. The dish was extremely simple and satisfying. The bread had a slightly smokey flavor as a result of the char from the grill. It was airy and fresh and with the accompaniment of the butter and sweet raspberries, we were off to an exciting start. The espresso drinks were tremendous too, we tried the vanilla latte and a cappuccino. We tried their onion soup which was everything you would want it to be. The caramelized onion broth was salty and delicious and the same manifest bread from the baguette was utilized in the dish and there was plenty of melted Gruyère over top. We also sampled their burger which was highly spoken of. It featured the afore mentioned caramelized onions and emmental on a potato bun with a generous portion of pommes frites. Emmental cheese is a medium hard cheese that has its origins in Switzerland. It, like everything else, was excellent. I wanted something filling so the burger was the perfect option although next time I go for brunch, I look forward to trying their “Crepe Au Miel Brule”, which is a crepe with burnt honey, caramelized apples, mascarpone, and flakey salt. I saw other patrons with it and it looked absolutely tremendous. Regardless, as far as final thoughts on Petite Cerise, the ambiance was warm and inviting, nothing stuffy. It had sleek tile floors and as I mentioned, the open kitchen which I loved. The service was good and the food was even better. By the way, for Michelin listed French food, Petite Cerise’s offering was extremely affordable. The most expensive menu item for brunch was $24. They had numerous dishes under $16 and when you combine Michelin listed establishments and French cuisine, you can expect to pay a significant amount. Not here, however, so if you are searching for a cute, upscale French bistro offering seasonal elevated dishes that you can afford without having to sweat it, this is your place. I enjoyed it and will defiantly be back. Best brunch place I have been so far in the city. (Unconventional Diner is the only other relevant brunch spot I have been) 8.6/10
